I hesitated to do this post at first because it’s a “The Real Meaning” post, but sometimes I feel like we all get so caught up in making sure that people know the true meaning behind Christmas that we forget some of the smaller holidays.
Saint Patrick’s Day.
I love Saint Patrick’s Day, it’s one of those holiday’s that
is always fun. My family doesn’t do a lot to celebrate but still, I get to wear
green, a color that looks awful on me, with the excuse that’s it’s for Saint Patrick’s
Day. It’s pretty much symbolizes the beginning of spring and there’s usually a
lot of chocolate coins around.
But is that all?
Sometimes I think we’re all caught up with Irish accents and
four leaf clovers that we forget something.
Saint Patrick’s Day is a celebration of a British man named
Patrick. At age sixteen he was captured and taken to Ireland as a slave. He
stayed there six years before he finally escaped and got back to his home.
While at home, he had a vision from God of the Irish, pleading for him to come
back to them. So he went back to the land of his captivity and spent his life
preaching to the Irish. One of the ways he preached Gods word was to take a
three leaf clovers, and explain that God was three in one, just like the clover.
The Father, Son, and Holy Spirt. All distinct, yet all connected.
Saint Patrick’s Day is to honor the man who did so much for
a country in which he was not born, and had been a slave in.
I love Saint Patrick’s Day. What about you?
