Food For Thought #54

Do not cling to passing things

Last week one of my lovely blog readers commented in response to my question about what Bible verse had stood out this week. She told me that 1 John 2:15-17 was what she had been reading, so I went and read it to, and thought it would be a great post. (Thanks Allie!)

1 John 2:15-17
Do not love this world nor the things it offers you, for when you love the world, you do not have the love of the Father in you. For the world offers only a craving for physical pleasure, a craving for everything we see, and pride in our achievements and possessions. These are not from the Father, but are from this world. And this world is fading away, along with everything that people crave. But anyone who does what pleases God will live forever.

Another verse I think goes with it:

Hebrews 10:10
We have been set apart as holy because Jesus Christ did what God wanted him to do by sacrificing his body once and for all.

Writing Wednesday #23

A poem

Hello! I thought I'd share a poem with y'all that I wrote awhile back. It was inspired by a friend of mine.

Everyone looked at the girl in a perfect blue dress
She looked like perfection would be less
She loved her family and they loved her back
And for making friends she had a knack
She was perfect in every sense
No one ever called her dense.
If you asked her she would say she was fine
In every way she seemed to shine.
But once she breaks away from everyone with a sigh
She goes by herself and has a cry
Because even though she might look perfect
Inside she is really quite wrecked.
She holds a lot of hurt inside
And she has no one in which to confide.
Her heart hurts so much she thinks it will break
When people call her perfect more pain does wake
Because she knows she's just as flawed as the rest
And she's been through just as hard of a test
She try's to tell them all that she is flawed
But they are all still by her awed.
They refused to acknowledge she is not what they think
And know that she is on the brink.
She cry's in her room all alone
All because they refuse to own
That she really is not as perfect as she seems
She is still the perfect girl in their dreams.

My Life (In as many posts as it takes) #83

I wish I could post more.

Hello! I'm sorry I missed my Writing Wednesday post this week. I'll post this week instead. =)
I went out to town nearly every day this week so I feel like I was left panting, and behind on school. So, this week will a bit of cramming on school, but it will be good to be busy. Hopefully it will keep me out of trouble, right? ;D
Here are a couple photos I took of Rebekkah last week. =)

Doesn't she look awesome?

I love the color contrast. =D

There you go!
How was your week?

Food For Thought #53

The Love Chapter

Every morning I read some in my Bible, working my way from beginning to end, and sometimes at night I'll read different things wherever I like in the Bible. For the last three nights I've just read over 1 Corinthians 13. AKA, the love chapter.
It's really been making me think about how I can love others more.
For most things, I read in my NIV Bible, but for this chapter I like it in the NLT.

I could speak all the languages of earth and of angels, but didn’t love others, I would only be a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. If I had the gift of prophecy, and if I understood all of God’s secret plans and possessed all knowledge, and if I had such faith that I could move mountains, but didn’t love others, I would be nothing. If I gave everything I have to the poor and even sacrificed my body, I could boast about it; but if I didn’t love others, I would have gained nothing.

Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.

Prophecy and speaking in unknown languages and special knowledge will become useless. But love will last forever! 9 Now our knowledge is partial and incomplete, and even the gift of prophecy reveals only part of the whole picture! But when the time of perfection comes, these partial things will become useless.

When I was a child, I spoke and thought and reasoned as a child. But when I grew up, I put away childish things. Now we see things imperfectly, like puzzling reflections in a mirror, but then we will see everything with perfect clarity. All that I know now is partial and incomplete, but then I will know everything completely, just as God now knows me completely.

Three things will last forever—faith, hope, and love—and the greatest of these is love.

Is there a verse or chapter of the Bible that has captured your attention this week?
What stood out to you most about this chapter?

My Life (In as many posts as it takes) #82

In which the first month of the year is over.

Someone please tell me where this month went. I'm sure I just celebrated new years day!
The month possibly could have gone into the ninteen books I read.
Or trying rock climbing.
Or playing laser tag twice with my siblings.
Or scratching out all the times I wrote 2015 instead of 2016.
Or writing.
Or editing.
Or school.
Or the photoshoots I did with Rebekkah.
Or the doll dresses I sewed.
This month could have also gone to writing blog posts and replying to y'all's awesome comments.
It might have also gone into brainstorming for my other blog.
Or writing to friends.
Or figuring out things with God and just spending time with him.
Or learning how hard it is not to give up on love sometimes.
Or figuring out the middle of the story is both a blessing and a trial.
Or discovering that I must do all things through Christ's strength, not my own.
Or learning that I cannot do an eight minute Cardio program without being sorry for it.

This month went to a lot of different things, though it still seemed to wiz by faster then I every thought it would. But overall, this was an awesome start to my year.

So what did you do this month? Please do tell me!
Have you gotten used to writing 2016 instead of 15?
