Food For Thought #40

About Fear

If you had met me one year and a month ago and asked me if you could call me, I would have adamantly told you that I hated phones and I hadn't talked on one for about seven years. In other words “No way!” That's changed though, because I had a friend who, one year ago this week, called me. I was shaking so hard with fear for the first five minutes of our conversation I had to sit down. I was so scared of facing a thing that I had not touched for most of my life. The signal was bad, we kept cracking up, but I had so much fun because it was the first time I had ever heard my friends voice and we had known each other a year. Over the past year I have talked on the phone about an hour a week. Now, I am still not great on the phone, not at all! I still get butterflies in my stomach just calling someone, but I still have pushed through it.

Fear almost always represents itself in distorted ways. I had convinced myself that I just had a general hate for phones for no particular reason. But the truth was, I was afraid. Afraid of sounding stupid, afraid of people teasing me and of doing something wrong. In the end, none of this ended up happening, but it was the fear of the imaginary consequences that I had conjured up in my head that I stayed off the phone for half my life. Fear kept me from taking a really simple step. Not every one of my phone conversations has been perfect, and I have said some stupid stuff, but the joy I get from being able to talk to some friends I might otherwise only email occasionally has been so great I wouldn't give it up for anything.

Fear sometimes keeps us from doing things that really aren't that scary once we actually do them. Don't let fear win today.

What’s one fear you have overcome?

My Life (In as many posts as it takes) #69

Fires and floods.

Its been a crazy week. Early this week, about two hours away from us, they were battling a huge fire. Now, were flooding. God certainly has a sense of humor when it comes to Texas weather. Thankfully, though our house got pretty wet, we did not get flooding.

We got our camera back from having repairs done on it, unfortunately, because of the rain, I having been able to take many pictures. Here are a couple I took early last week though!

Cat using rock a a pillow. Am I the only one who thinks this is adoarble?

Thank you so much for reading!

Food For Thought #39

Of God and Planets

I have never actually seen the planets. I have seen many pictures of them, but I have never had the pleasure of seeing them for myself.

Never having actually physically seen the planets, someone could make the argument that I don’t really know if there actually there. That I have no foundation for my belief in them.

But I firmly believe that there are eight other planets in this solar system. I don’t just believe because I have been told this, but also because I have seen the evidence of them. They create gravitational pull on things. Also, I know people who have seen them, and I trust them.

You could still say that it’s silly for me to believe that the planets are there. Yet I think you would be hard pressed to find someone who didn’t believe the eight other planets existed.

Now, the same can go for God. I have never seen him, but the evidence is all around me, proving to me that he is there. And I have seen beautiful pieces of artwork every single day made by God, they couldn’t have just come from nothing.

If as many people believed in God as they did in the planets, can you imagine what the world would be like?

I was tagged by Jamie over at A Year of Nature Studies for the Awesome Food Tag. She tagged me back on *Cough Cough* September 12'th. I feel bad that its taken me this long. But, here it is, despite the delay.
These photos are from a photo shoot me and my sister Rebekkah did together.

Tea, preferably iced and sweetened.

What blog do you read/check most often?

Food For Thought #38

Recently I’ve been coping some verses from Psalms and I realized just how many amazing prayers there are in it. One especially struck me this week and I thought I wanted to share it with y’all.

Psalm 119:33-37

Teach me, Lord, the way of your decrees,
that I may follow it to the end.
Give me understanding, so that I may keep your law
and obey it with all my heart.
Direct me in the path of your commands,
    for there I find delight.
Turn my heart toward your statutes
    and not toward selfish gain.
Turn my eyes away from worthless things;
preserve my life according to your word.

What’s your favorite verse in Psalms?
Thank you for reading!

My Life (In as many posts as it takes) #66

Hello! Its already looking to be a really busy day for me, but I wanted to make sure to get this post up before things got crazy around here. The cooler weather is coming and going here in Texas, it can't seem to decide whether it wants to be cool or hot.

On a completely random note, I've been thinking of re-doing my header and sidebar with a new theme. I've been trying out a lot of different stuff and I think I'm just about ready to put that up.
That was really just a warning so you wouldn't freak out if next time you came things were different. ;D

Birds flying south.

Isn't this rainbow awesome?

I hope y'all have a blessed week.

Food For Thought #37

Galatians 5:24

Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.

Ever have a night where you just can't get to sleep? I had one of those last night so I decided to read while I was awake. I got my Bible and was flipping between Galatians and Hebrews because I couldn't decide which one to read. Then, while in Galatians I was looking at chapter five and I saw something. Under the beautiful section about love, there was the above verse. I hadn't really noticed it before but it really stood out to me.

We, as Christians are supposed to give up the things of this world. Galatians 5:24 says the things of flesh have been crucified. Crucifixion is a long, ugly process. It doesn't happen instantly, and neither does getting rid of the things of this world. But once its been crucified, it is gone for good.

But you notice this verse doesn't say 'good christians will have their flesh with its passions and desiers crucified.' It says "Those who belong to Christ Jesus". Every single one of us.

Whats a verse that stood out to you this week?

Writing Wednesday #17

I don’t know about y’all, but I’m busy gearing up for NaNoWriMo. I’m a little nervous this year because unlike the last two times I have done this, I do not have a book I am jumping up and down excited to write. I have a couple books I would like to write, but I’m not sure I have enough inspiration to get though them. But, after some thought, I decided to write a Beauty and the Beast re-telling. Now I picked this partly because it entails doing a lot of fun stuff as gear up. I get to re-watch a Beauty and the Beast play, watch the animation, find pictures on Pinterest, and find fairytale like music to listen to while writing.

(If you have any suggestions of good fairytale music, please comment and tell me!)

If any of y’all are participating in NaNoWriMo, why don’t you hop over to my profile and buddy me?

I’m going to try to ‘introduce’ you to all my main characters before November is up, so here is the first one. My heroin, Gracie.

Gracie is a twenty three year old figure skater, ready to get out of the small competitions and onto bigger ones. When she finally gets her chance, it comes at a much bigger cost then she had originally thought.

Have you ever done NaNoWriMo before?
What’s your favorite part?

My Life (In as many posts as it takes) #65

In which I have met a big life milestone.

Today is one of the best days of my life. Eghit years ago today, I accepted Jesus Christ as my pursonal savior and freind. I have now been saved half my life. Saying I'm excited about that is the understatment of the centary. It is wonderful to know that from now on, I will have spent more time in my life knowing God, then not.

My testamony is not a super moving one. We were hosting a babtism at our house in October of 2007 and all that week I had been thinking about the babtism, and why they did it. And so, being the over thorough girl I was, I asked God to come into my heart three nights in a row before I told anyone, just so that I would be sure about it. Later that week I was babtised with three of my siblings and one of my best friends.

My walk with Jesus has been though many ups and downs in this last eghit years, but I am so greatful to have a forgiving Father who is with me no matter what.

All the praise be to him.

Romans 10:9-10
If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.

1 John 1:9
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness

Food For Thought #36

Forever Friends

Are all friends supossed to last forever?

I wish they did, but I don't belive there suposed to. I have some riends I truely belive will be my friend until the day I die. Also, there are some friends who I went into the relationship knowing that it was only for a time. I belive God uses some short relationships to give us short term suport.

I think God gives us differnt friendships for different seasons. Some are ment to last year, or even your who life. Others are ment to be only for a time and season.

So are we willing to let go?
Please comment below with your thoughts, I want to know what you think.
