Food For Thought #36

Forever Friends

Are all friends supossed to last forever?

I wish they did, but I don't belive there suposed to. I have some riends I truely belive will be my friend until the day I die. Also, there are some friends who I went into the relationship knowing that it was only for a time. I belive God uses some short relationships to give us short term suport.

I think God gives us differnt friendships for different seasons. Some are ment to last year, or even your who life. Others are ment to be only for a time and season.

So are we willing to let go?
Please comment below with your thoughts, I want to know what you think.

  1. So true! I can relate to this because I think friendships can become idols pretty easily. We have to trust God with the friendships we have in our lives. We have to trust that maybe who we want to be friends with isn't who God wants in our lives right now.
I think a lot of friends are just in our lives for a season: for middle school, for high school, and sometimes as we find out who we are, who we are friends with changes.

  3. *figures I should comment since I meant to the past few posts and never did* *brace yourself for a PK moment* :P

You're definitely right. And that's what I've been struggling with so much lately. Friends are for certain seasons of life, be it years or only weeks. One of my favorite lines from a Broadway musical song is "I've heard it said that people come into our live for a reason, bringing something we must learn, and we are lead to those who help us most to grow if we let them, and we help them in return." This is something that's hard for me, with my personality type, to grasp. When I make friends, I want to hold on to them for FOREVER. That's not how it's intended to be. I mean, God will give some of us a friend or two that we'll still be friends with even into adulthood, and that's how it is. But for most people, that's *not* how it is, and we need to accept that as fact and go on.

That being said, enjoy the friendships while you have them!! Make the most of it. Benefit each person from the relationship. The hardest part for me is giving part of myself to that person, opening up to them and letting them see my heart, making myself vulnerable, and then after a few years, they leave (you being the one exception). So it's incredibly hard, and it *will* hurt when we truly love. But it's a sacrifice we need to make in order to show God's love to the other person.

Am *I* willing to let go? At this point, absolutely not. I hate letting go of anything. I *need* to reach that point, though, and I'm being forced to give up people this year I never wanted to. But I need to let them go in my *heart* as well.

Good thoughts! And sorry for rambling. ;)

  5. This is very true. It's hard, because sometimes you really do want the friendship to last, but the friend was just there for a season. I think a lot of friendships are temporary, but then there are those special ones that do last a lifetime. My mom tells me: "Some (friends) are for a reason, some are for a season, and some are for a lifetime." :)

    1. Thanks! Cool, I'm going to have to use that sometime! That is, if your mom would be alright with it. ;)
