Food For Thought #42

Love is not proud

I wish I could tell y'all that I do not have a pride issue but I might * cough cough* just have a rather large one. Alright, so this could be counted among my biggest faults; I am very prideful. I often find myself getting in trouble for my pride. I've often been told I need to work on getting rid of my pride. Now, in my head I know the only way to get rid of my pride is to continue, every single minute of the day, take the issue to God and ask him to help me work though it. Its not easy at all, but he'll help me. But in my heart all I see is that in order to win the battle of my pride, I have to let myself get pulverized my 'enamey' and get humbled. Great picture there, right? Just makes you want to jump up and conquer your pride. But I realized that really, conquering is dying, dying to self, and living in Christ.

We as Christians are called to shine God's love to those around us. Since God is love, and love is not proud, I believe we should strive to get rid of our pride. He will help us if we ask him.

  1. I heard it said once that the longest distance in the world is from the head to the heart. Getting those things that we have pounded into our heads to actually make it to our hearts is one of the hardest things to do. Pride is definitely a hard thing to overcome. I think a lot of problems have their roots set in pride. I get those kinds of struggles. You're not alone, sister.

    1. Thank you, Lauren! I agree, that distance is probably the longest in the world.

  2. Me too girl. I have so much pride, and I think something that happened in my life over this summer brought me to a place of humility and surrender of that pride over to Him. Even though I wish it didn't take my sin to humble me, that is what Christ used, and I am thankful how God uses sin for His glory. Praying...setting our eyes on Christ, that is the key. It's not always easy and we so have to die to ourselves like you said, which is SO hard.
thanks for the encouragement today <3

  3. I relate to this so much!! I feel pride is actually a good thing, but a lot of the time it isn't portrayed that way.

    1. I don't feel that pride is a good thing. The Bible says directly that I, as a Christian, have no right to pride in myself. It says that love is not proud and I am called to be Gods love to the world. I do have a lot of trouble working through getting rid of my pride, but God is always helping me.

      Thank you for your comment.

    2. Thank you for your reply *me stumbling back on this months later* I believe pride is good - we should be proud of our achievements and efforts, and stop to dwell on the amazing things we've done. However, you are right, love is not proud.
