Food For Thought #43

Soaking wet and humbled by dewdrops.

I went outside today, determined to get a good photo of the dewdrops. That's where my problem started. Like I mentioned last week, I struggle with pride, so being that kind of person I went out assuming I would get a good photo. And you know what, I did, but I was really humbled in the process.

I don't know if you've ever taken photos of dew on grass before, but if you have, you probably are aware that its nearly impossible to get a truly good photo without siting down in the middle of it, propping your elbows on the ground and getting soaked. Which is precisely what I did, and I got muddy, soaked, and even my hair was wet.

Doing that made me realize something; we get the richest rewards when we are willing to humble ourselves. Now, I'm not saying getting wet is the most humbling experience I've ever had, but it did get me to thinking.

I, as a photographer, do 00.01 percent of the work. God set all those dewdrops out, and made the sun sparkle on them. He grew the grass and He tended it. He did all that, and all I did was go out and capture it. I forget a lot that nature photography isn't about making a masterpiece, its about capturing God's masterpiece's and sharing them so others might see it.

Have you ever been humbled by something simple?

  1. I woke up very early the other day to capture some sunrise photos. I was humbled by the wonderful photos I got but I was a little upset because some of the photos came out with flash because it was a little dark outside. This is a great reminder. The pictures I took are scheduled to post at A Friend Loves at All Times on Thanksgiving. Thank you for the wonderful message and keep letting God use you to work in others' lives. :)
