Food For Thought #30

About Patience

I once heard a quote “Patience isn’t about the ability to wait, but the ability to wait with a good attitude.” –Joyce Myer.

This has become one of my favorite quotes. I spent a lot of my life believing that if I forced myself to wait, then I had patience, it had nothing to do with my attitude. It was a very hard realization that this wasn’t enough. God didn’t ask that you wait longer for things, he asked that you have a good attitude while you wait.

Here are some really good verses about patience.

Proverbs 14:29
Whoever is patient has great understanding.

2 Peter 3:9
The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.

Patience is a virtue I struggle with, it’s hard to slow down sometimes. At the moment there is something I want very badly. It’s not something I can get on my own, so I’m having to wait for God’s timing. Sometimes being forced to wait is the best way to practice patience. It’s hard sometimes, but by God’s grace, I’ll keep trying.

  1. Yes! Patience is a virtue that I think a lot of us don't have the, uh, patience, to get down. :P Great verses! And great reminder!
