Food For Thought #13

What are we complaining about?

Most people who write posts about why not to complain are saying things like this: "There are people dying for Christ today and you're complaining that school is hard? How selfish can you be?"

This is not one of those posts.

We all have different hardships, some more serious then others, but God gave us our problems, and he's going to help us deal with them.

Now, we all have something to complain about in our life. Weather its hard relationships or we can't find the song you want to listen to right now. You could find hundreds of things to complain about if you wanted to. But why do we want to? Is it helping anyone to complain? Now I'm not saying its a sin to complain, I don't believe it is, but nothing good comes of it except selfish wants.

Philippians 2: 3-4
Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.

Please don't think I'm saying that you can't say that something is going wrong in your life, I think that sharing our pain with others is one of the ways God helps us to heal. Because, sharing does not equal complaining. I'm just saying that complaining, for the sake of complaining, is not good.

This week, I'm going to try to stop complaining for the sake of complaining.
Does anyone want to join me?

  1. Wow, very thought-provoking post! I, too, have been convicted of how much I complain as of late. Yes, I will join you! Although, I think I'm going to try to stop complaining for the sake of Philippians 2:14-15, "Do everything without complaining or arguing, that you may become blameless and pure children of God without fault in this warped and crooked generation. Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky as you hold firmly to the word of Life." :) Thank you so much for making me think this afternoon!
